Adobe CDS Solutions
Adobe Certified Document Services (CDS) enables more secure, reliable document PDF exchange
Leading engineering firm, CHA,
chooses DocumentSign to
improve efficiency.
Adobe Systems has developed the AdobeĀ® PDF or Portable Digital Files for digital file exchange purposes. The recipient of the PDF could open, review, and print the entire file without facing compatibility issues even when he doesn't have the same software used to create the file.
But, as a receiver of a PDF, how can you be sure that the file has not been altered in any way? How can you be sure it came from a trusted source?
The solution is Certified Document Services or CDS. This is the first digital signing solution which allows the author of AdobeĀ® PDF to certify to the recipient the identity of the author was verified by a trusted organisation.
DocumentSign gives authors the option to add a digital Certifying Signature and Approval Signatures to the PDFs they distribute over the internet. This process is the digital equivalent of sealing a document and using wet-ink signatures to assure the recipient that the document is authentic, that it comes from a verified source, and that the contents have not been altered in any way since it was published.

GlobalSign is currently an authorised participant in the Adobe Certified Document Cervices (CDS) program and it operates under a rigorous set of polices and standards created and implemented by Adobe with auditing done by WebTrust. This enables GlobalSign to issue CDS Certificates recognised by Adobe. These are known as DocumentSign Digital IDs for individuals and departmental entities.
Users of DocumentSign could add Certifying and Approval Signatures to their PDFs through a trust model used in Adobe Reader 6.0+ without having to install any new plug-ins, configuring the non-default settings, or the need to make confusing trust decisions.

Using GlobalSign DocumentSign, PDFs can be certified by a person or department by adding a Certifying Signature, and when viewed will present the document recipient with a prominent "blue ribbon" displayed within Adobe Reader. Recipients can then easily determine the document authenticity and authorship. Prior to certifying the document the signer may specify the types of changes allowed for the document to remain certified (e.g. what is allowed without invalidating the Certifying Signature) such as "changes not permitted, form filling only or form filling and commenting".
DocumentSign allow PDFs to contain one or more Approval Signatures, added by individuals or departments, and when viewed present the document recipient with a "green checkmark" displayed within the PDF itself. Approval Signatures show which people or departments have consented to, approved or accepted to the contents of the PDF.
